I try to view this as catering to a different kind of people, not as sacrificing the user experience/usability/integrity of a site.

Many people genuinely don't want to read high quality advice or recommendations - They think they do, but they are just too casual/lazy/whatever to spend the time reading about a subject, and just want to be sold something that they can understand.

In an Utopian world they would listen to the god advice on your site, but the reality is that their 8 second attention span expire, and they go on to the next site where some random guy is sell them a worthless piece of junk.

By making some more "spammy" sites, I can lead those lost souls towards some good decisions, or at least to a lesser evil.

You can obviously also go all out and just sell worthless junk, but I suspect that you are writing about focusing more on getting people to sign up - Not selling them untested products to increase the size of various body parts.
