Now that we have the initial introduction out of the way it is time to reveal the websites I am currently working on. At the moment they are all in a position where they need to be fixed up. They all have great potential – but at the end of the day potential doesn’t bring the dollars in. I am beginning to hate that word.
Online Craps – This is a sick domain and I am lucky to have it. I have been working on this for the past few weeks. I have had a world of trouble with the URL structure, redirects and getting indexed properly. I had to manually delete some old URLs that were there when I bought the domain.
It was just yesterday that things started being picked up properly in Google. I’m now ranking #6-8 for the term “online craps” and am getting a little bit of traffic. I had about 20 uniques yesterday. I think I am on to a good thing here and can’t see any reason why I can’t be making 10k/month from it in a relatively short amount of time.
Australian Online Poker – This is my first ever website and is currently undergoing a complete makeover. My old partner was my mate that I used to live with. He was a lazy bastard and ended up moving to Japan. I lost all interest in it because I was effectively throwing away 50%.
There is a lesson to be learned here and one that Jim from poker prop reinforced to me. It is almost always a bad idea to get involved with in a partnership with a designer. I tend to agree with this because once the site is up they pretty much don’t do anything. I lost all motivation and it is only now I’m working on turning it into a real money earner.
If you compare this site to a similar one than it should be making around 3k per month. I have already taken out two sections and will be adding bonus pages for each poker site. It needs a complete SEO overhaul as well. When I first started all I did was copy and paste my meta and change the name of the room. Pretty silly I know.
Why I haven’t changed it until now is another thing that is hard to understand. I guess the main reason is because I completely ignored the site because there were so many problems and didn’t know where to start. The site gets very little traffic but a lot of that has to do with the SEO and coding. That should be worked out in the next couple of days.
I have worked out a sweet deal with my good mate Giorgio from Poker for Free. He is one sick coder and designer. He is a pleasure to chat to each day and makes working in this industry fun each day. Because I have almost no technical and design skills he is doing the work on Poker Shark. In return I am filling up one of his casino sites with some quality content. This is a great arrangement for both of us and I’m stoked to see the progress we are making.
Australian Gambling – This is a pretty new site that I set up after the legal issues that were brought up in the media over here. There were rumours that they were going to make it illegal to gamble over here but it turned out to be just hot air. I used a different theme on this and is a little weird to work on. At the moment it is mainly news posts with a few reviews.
I have had a few little sign ups on this site but nothing major. The Australian market is one that I think I can dominate, and one that I know well. Aussies love to gamble and I need to tap into it. There are a fair few sports betting sites over here but that’s about it. If I put the hard work into this site it can easily become an authority.
One of the other ideas that I had for this site is to sell advertising to local casinos. I think I can get good money from it if I can get the traffic in the door. At the moment it is only getting around 10 uniques.
I have a couple of mini sites but they aren’t making any money as yet. I also picked up the domain slotstournaments.net this week which could be something to look into. I have some awesome domains that I haven’t yet developed. Domains like onlinesportsbooks.com.au and onlinepaigow.org are next on the list but I need to stay focused for now.
That about wraps up what I’m working on at the moment. As you can probably see I’m not making a great deal but I’m not too far away now that I have pulled my finger out.
I will make another post later about the specifics of how my day went and what I accomplished. I would like to give a special mention to my poker affiliate buddy Kevin though. This guy gave me the first link to this site and is a cool dude. He may not realise it but he inspires me because he really is livin’ the dream. Even though he isn’t on huge money he is having a great time. If his Facebook photos are anything to go by – this guy would be more at home if he lived at Ibiza ( I think that’s the place). Cheers buddy.

You really have great domain names! I have read discussions about the importance of domain names, I know that it could help the click-through from SEs when the keywords are bold in the domain name too, but beside this is there any other positive effects on ranking?
Regarding partnerships: from my experience it can be a really hard situation, I have had a venture with someone and we agreed she will make the translations on one of my website and she could get share after the players signed up at the translated version of the site. Of course it turned out that I made almost everything and needed to wait for the translations for months. Then I decided that it won’t work and ended the partnership. In the future I will ask for translation only from a contractor.
I’m waiting for you day-end summary Hazo, good work so far
Hey Sipka,
Thanks for the comment! I just put up the latest post, but had a really unproductive day yesterday. Your Bingo site looks awesome – how do you find the market? I put up a Bingo site but it is terrible and I lost interest.
As for the question about the domain – I do think that the exact match plays a large role in my rankings yes. I don’t think there would be much of a chance of me ranking so highly this early on.
This domain is aged as well but only had one page up a few years back. One question that I am trying to figure out is if the age still plays an important role if there was hardly any content up there. Is it simply enough to have a history on the wayback machine?
If I find out I will put up a post about it. Hope you have an awesome day and hit your goals
Yeah, designers are only good for outsourcing. But at least you learned the lesson early in the game eh.
Hey Hazo, thanks for the compliment
I finally started to make money with bingo last year when I launched the site, I think because of the less competition.
I started out with a poker site in 2005, but beside $300-400 here and there I didn’t make much money out of it, so I let it die slowly lol. Somehow bingo was easier to write about (I’m not a poker guru).
I have also a similar site like you, I launched a casino domain with 2-3 pages in the beginning of 2006, and I let it that way and I just redesigned it 1 week ago and I wonder the same if that ageing would count or not toward my current ranking? (Though I didn’t keep any of the old content) So I would be interested what is the situation with it too.
Hey Aidan,
Yeah man I am glad I learned early on and it didn’t cost me a lot in the grand scheme of things. Live and learn buddy!
OnlineCraps.net is a really sick domain and I am sure it will be doing well in the future. It shows up as number 5 for me when i search for Online Craps btw
